Jaigarh Fort is among the famous forts attracting a large number of tourists from all over the world. The fort was built during 1726 by Sawai Jai Singh II as a defence system for the Amber Fort. The structure is situated on the hill providing a mesmerising look of the city.

History

The Jaigarh Fort was constructed in the 17th century. It was named after Sawai Jai Singh II. Jaigarh Fort along with Amer Fort is situated in Amer. The structure used as the cannon foundry and a place of armoury collection.

Architecture

The structure is enclosed by massive red sandstone walls, extending upto the length of 3 km and width of 1 km. The most intriguing part of the place is that it houses the third longest canon in the world named Jaivan Canon. Tourists can explore the famous structures within the fort including Vilas Mandir, Laxmi Vilas, Aram Mandir and Lalit Mandir. Besides there is an armoury and museum within the premises of the fort.

Jaivan: The most popular attraction of the fort is Jaivan, which is the largest canon in Asia. Tourists are drawn towards it to witness this massive cannon on wheels.

Armoury Museum: The museum displays a collection of war weapons, likely shields, swords and long guns providing a look of the Rajput warfare.

Cannon Factory: The cannon factory manufactured big weapons in the course of the Mughal period. It provides the vision of the complex production of canons and advanced technology.

Ram Harihar Temple: This popular attraction depicts the religious and cultural history of the fort.

Water Tank: The water tank was built to store and preserve the rainwater for a stable supply of water.

Subhat and Khilbati Niwas: It is a residential area in the fort used by royal families and officials. The area exhibits the style of living and the arrangements of the past era.

Lakshmi Vilas: This place is a must see location for the history buffs. This alluring structure showcases the regal heritage and architectural beauty of the Rajput era.

Puppet Theatre: The fort houses a small theatre which was used as the entertainment area by the royals. You can visit and enjoy the puppet show, additionally you can shop for these small eye-catching puppets.

Lalit Mandir: The temple has significant historical importance. This beautifully architectured complex used as the summer palace by the Maharaja

Vilas Mandir: The complex is known as Zenana and exhibits the intricate work on the windows. Apart from this, a pleasant cool breeze flows from the window into the halls.

Sagar Lake: The lake is visible from the fort and it plays an important role in serving as a method of water management system.

Inside the fort there are photographs of Sawai Bhawani Singh and General Man Singh II. The fort has arrow loops which were part of the rainwater harvesting system.
Also, visit Shubhat Niwas referred to as the warriors meeting hall where weather beaten sedan chairs and drums offer the insight of the Fort’s rich culture.

The Jaigarh Fort opens at 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM. It is advisable to visit during the morning or evening for a less crowded experience.
